The scene-iest of gays turned out for Jeffrey Kalinsky’s hip fundraising Jeffrey Fashion Cares soirée and fashion show. The event was held so far over on 42nd St we thought it might be in the Hudson, but Espace proved to be a lovely location. We tried not to step on the mingling Project Runway 4 contestants (they’re all so tiny!) while looking as fashionable as we could (though an unnamed blogger couldn’t take the fashion heat and chose to remove his shoes during the actual runway show “because his feet were killing him”). The main segment of the evening’s auction and runway show felt a little like our high school assemblies (complete with several cries of “shhh!” to quiet us down, plus plenty of hoots and hollers during the show for its ample amounts of skin). But the night was a big success, raising over $500,000 for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, home of the Harvey Milk High School, Lambda Legal Defense Fund and Gay Men’s Health Crisis.
We’ve been on a celeb-sighting frenzy of late. We spotted Project Runway designer Malan Breton sipping a cosmo at therapy and reading Next’s spread about Bravo reality stars. How meta! Then, we sat next to the legendary (and still stunning) Angela Lansbury at the new Broadway musical A Catered Affair. And finally, elmo has been a hotbed of famous clients lately with Demi Moore, Joss Stone, Diddy, Julia Stiles and Michael Stipe all stopping by for a dose of their favorite comfort food.
Our glitterati selves also went to The Lounge @ elmo on Wednesday for Chip Stevenson’s Big Daddy Productions soirée for photographer Ron Reeves. The cute and well attended party featured Ron’s boyfriend, DJ DeMarko, spinning alongside an open Blat Vodka + Bulldog Gin bar while the crowd enjoyed a great slide presentation of Reeve’s photography that’s now up on his website, RonReeves.com. Guestlist: Terry Nolen, Peter Lau, Renaldo Davis Carter, Gerald Hurt.
Putting the X-Factor into Monday nights is Gen X Mondays at Eastern Bloc. DJ Sean Labbé—spinning pop and electro beats—pulled in quite a hot crowd of hipsters last week including Alan Cummings, LX TV’s Pedro Andrade and ever-fierce fashion icon Xander Aviance.
Next Magazine and The Men Event took over Splash Tuesday evening for their monthly networking event. This month they were proud to host the announcement of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS annual Broadway Bares theme with director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell and actress Mary Birdsong on hand. The theme: “Wonderland,” a fabulous take on Alice in Wonderland. Keep your eyes on Next Magazine for a sneak peek at this dazzling and skintimate night of show.
Speaking of skin, Daniel Nardicio continues to create mayhem secretly in the middle of the B&T laden Meatpacking district. Last weekend he threw a mid-spring Garden of Earthly Delights party complete with a vine-laden forest that came so close to Carter Smith’s killer-vine-laden The Ruins it had us a bit scared! Also scary is porn star Eric Rhodes, who was there and looks just as giant in his clothes as he does naked. But there were plenty of go-go shower-shows and a forest critter performance from Bambi all set to an earthy and delightful soundtrack of legendary DJ Johnny Dynell.
Finally, we’re such silly creatures that last week we mistakenly labeled a picture of Kenny Kenny and the fashion industry’s favorite dandy Patrick McDonald as being a photo of Kenny and Patrick McMullan! The funny thing is, McDonald writes for this magazine and McMullan photographs for another gay publication. Girl, you know it’s time for a break when you start making mistakes like these…Okay, where’s our cocktail…? NT
