SCENE AND HEARD

ALL THE NEWS THAT FITS, WE PRINT.

It was a sss-mokin’ hot week—and we don’t just mean the weather. Truth be told, it was too hot to fuck, and for us to say that you know it’s got to be serious, honey. The thermometers themselves were practically melting once we hit the second anniversary party on Thursday night for Gorgeous at g Lounge. Franco DiLuzio and Mark Lander threw a birthday bash that raked in boys, boys and more boys to make us melt—in a good way! Resident Mixtress DJ Lina spun for the packed house of hotties that included Justin Trabert at the door and go-gos Sinful, Ray J and Dave T on the bar. Sponsors Absolut, David Barton Gym and 2Xist presented gifts to the guests as the Gorgeous bartenders served the crowd sporting sponsored underwear. But does anyone really need an excuse to be in underwear in this weather?!

The same night, Next Magazine blew the lid off the Mark Ecko Cut & Sew store. We invaded the store for the launch party for our annual Primping for Pride issue, and plenty of the boys in attendance left primped in some hot duds from the store (hello, 20% off!). The store packed a host of hotties, none as hot as the waiters and bartenders from Cutting Edge who were passing around hors d’oeuvres from Bamboo 52 and Philip Marie and serving up Svedka vodka cocktails and bottles of Sapporo and Yuengling Light. DJ DeMarko made the store sound fantastic. Cover model Clarence was the man of the hour and certainly made plenty of new friends before the evening was over.

Michael Ferreira (a.k.a. drag queen Carmella Cann) hosted friends and family at the new Hell’s Kitchen hotspot 1,2,3 for a private screening of It’s Me, Matthew!, a short film he wrote, produced, directed and stars in. The film, which also stars Village Voice columnist Michael Musto and soap stud Paul Anthony Stewart, looks at how events in childhood shape adult relationships. The premiere party was a huge success and all the film’s stars greeted their new fans.

Saturday was so sweltering, we spent the whole evening in search of a cool bar. The Ritz was just the right temperature early in the evening with a cute crowd of cocktail sippers. The Hangar was packed for its Puerto Rican Pride party, which was lots of fun, but we had to move on. The Stonewall Inn was stone cold. Really, it was like a meat locker in there, and we stayed for several cocktails cooling our heels. Fantastic! Pieces was full but a little on the toasty side. Boiler Room lived up to its name and we quickly jetted over to Family at 40C where the only ones sweating were the go-go boys, who were as hot as the June night. We were scared when we went over to The Cock that it would be horrible and sweaty but the room was nice and cool and the perfect spot for a steamy encounter (hey Brazilian Alex, call us!).

News from Alegria! Ric Sena sent out an email talking about the highly anticipated Alergria Pride event and acknowledging some of the challenges faced by revelers at his previous Memorial Day event at Webster Hall (as one of New York’s last great large venues completes its renovations). The venue’s main-level bathrooms were not finished due to delayed construction; however, the venue has promised to be ready for Pride. Other upgrades in the works: a new sound system in The Marlin Room is said to have been installed last week and the mezzanine expects to have all-new furniture in the next few weeks. Sena also apologized for the Memorial Day décor—as his parties are known for their elaborate production values—as a customs strike in Rio delayed the shipment of decorations until the Tuesday after the event. Talk about fashionably late. But Sena assures fans the Pride 2008 event will be as memorable (and undoubtedly packed) as ever! N
